PRELIMINARY TASK EVALUATION:

During our preliminary task, we faced a fair few problems:

  • Firstly, our location wasn't right. We had intended for a class room, but couldn't find a suitable one. Thus, we filmed in a corridor. The problem with this is that it has limited space, but it allowed us to use different camera angles on the stairs, for example.

  • We didn't have any backing music that could have indicated the genre of our preliminary opening sequence. If this was our real opening sequence, no soundtrack would make it harder for the audience to indentify the genre.

  • Due to the limited time we had to shot the sequence in, we were limited to the shots we used. There wasn't time to go out and re-film any shots we deemd unsatisfactory.

But, there were many benefits of doing a preliminary sequence:

  • It allowed us to get to grips with using the Adobe Premiere Pro software on the iMac. This gave us the necessary practice before we started our main opening sequence, and allowed us to get familiar with the programme.

  • The preliminary sequence allowed us to play around a bit. We played around with the titles on Premiere Pro, and the effects, so we could get a feel for them before our main project got underway. It allowed us to play around with the shots and camera angles we used. We tested a fair few angles and shots, that we incorporated into our film. For example, the high angle shot on the stairs, and the worm's eye view tracking the protagonists movement.

  • It enabled us to realise what worked and what didn't. We realsied that location was important to present the genre of our film, using a variety of shots is important to keep the audience entertained and to try and keep the editing tight, so the film flows.
